RIP Member Blackrhythms (Jhone Cunnane)

It is with great sadness that we announce yet another tragic loss to the Irish biking community, our very own Blackrhythms.

Jhone has been around these parts since day dot, tirelessly helping, marshalling and organising biker rideouts and various fundraisers from DSi events, to the notorious 'Burger Run', to raffles in aid of the MCI Medical team, to the annual Biker Toy run's to have Santa visit sick children in hospital at Christmas, but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries this morning following a road traffic accident in doing what she loved best, riding her bike.

Our sincerest condolences to her son Caelum, other half Spanky (Enda) and all her family and friends.

Her smile, humour and inspirational can-do attitude towards life will be sorely missed.

RIP Jhone.

RIP Doc John Hinds MCUi Travelling Medic

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of one of road racing's unsung heros ; Doctor John Hinds.

An avid racing enthusiast who contributed valuable safety advice to the forum and various motorcycling magazines in order to help other bikers, and who selflessly gave up his time almost every weekend in order to provide essential lifesaving medical care and assistance in his role as the MCUI travelling doctor, he will be sadly missed.

Click the image to open in full size.It is with great sadness that we announce Aidan Lynam (Magnets) lost his life earlier today in a traffic collision during the annual DSi charity run.

Tragically marking it's tenth anniversary, the 'Revup4Dsi' event's huge success for down syndrome Ireland in terms of both raising awareness and funds (almost €1,500,000 to date) can largely be attributed to the direction and motivation of one man, Aidan Lynam.

I've known Aidan since began (almost 10years ago also) and while vocal and largely in disagreement on a lot of subjects, ranging from shutter speeds to the perceived talent (or lack thereof) of motorcycle racers, he had a certain charm and honesty to his character that marked him out as a resilient and focused ambassador for DSi who cut thru the red tape and stood up as a voice for this otherwise socially excluded and marginalised group.

Above all he was an avid motorcycle enthusiast who will be sadly missed by all who knew him, and we were proud to have him on the moderating team at one time, although this was short lived after he banned about 2,000 members one night for the laugh..

R.I.P Buddy.

Trackday experience with the VFR800 at Mondello race circuit

what better way to test out your new clutch !!
A touring motorcycle complete with luggage, soft suspension and hard tyres is probably more at home trickling around the scenic highways and byways of the countryside, rather than being subjected to a grueling flat out ordeal around Mondello Park race circuit, but it composed itself rather well all the same - a remarkable 'all-rounder'.

Obviously the VFR800 dives a bit on braking as the forks are pretty basic (with no compression or rebound adjustment, nada) but the actual stopping power (ebc hh pads) is good, not so much bite that you'd tuck the front leaned over and I'd say the rear application with CBS keeps it stable coming down from big speed into turn 1.

There's a lot of engine compression in the VFR though and if you mess up the down shifts without blipping it can get messy real fast down into the likes of turn 3 or tarazan, especially when leaned a little (slipper clutches are a god-send here) Grand oul bus though and good craic (can't really hear in the video but it sounds great) I'd say if you'd a set of sticky rubber it'd be a right laugh, the Angel GT's are a bit hard for that craic.

For what it is, I was impressed with the VFR though, you can get a lot of lean before it bottoms out and there's a small but useful surge of power after about

VFR800 Clutch Replacement Vtec RC46 DIY

My RC46 Vtec VFR800 was leaking oil, nothing major- but annoying none the less

Problem was the clutch /crankcase housing gasket, which dripped oil onto the exhaust making it very smokey once the bike warmed up. As a new clutch is only 30quid, I decided to replace that along with this gasket as kind of preventative maintenance which could also sharpen up the clutch 'bite' hopefully, in the process.

[Fixed] Honda VFR 800 Clutch Slipping - Simple DIY Repair

My VFR800 was slipping it's clutch at high revs, mainly in 3rd gear.

For wet weather riders, this could sometimes be mistaken for wheel spin in the rain, anyway it got worse so I nursed it home and tried a few things, one of which worked and now it's operating perfectly once again, so if you've got a few tools and about an hour to spare, try this before ordering a replacement clutch for your Honda vfr800 vtec.

The VFR800 clutch is on the right hand side as you're sitting on the bike, and the clutch slave cylinder ( basically a housing that actuates a piston in the same way as a brake caliper would, only instead of pushing pads it pushes a foot long metal rod across the engine to the right-hand side and engages/disengages the clutch system) is on the left right beside the foot-peg.

Well this 'rod' (im sure there's a technical term for it) was covered in crap, had no lubrication and was 'sticking' on my VFR ultimately leaving the clutch 'half engaged' some of the time and leading to slippage (and ultimately premature wear if not

Remove footrest and metal guard behind ;

This exposes your rear cam chain tensioner, remove nut from end of this tensioner and make your own 'key' for winding the tensioner spring ;
